McKibben theorizes that our traditional economic theory that having more is always better is no longer the case. In the developed world, we have reached the magical point where consumption no longer impacts happiness. McKibben's believes that the secret to sustained happiness in our country is to consume less, live more in touch with the planet, and become more involved with our local communities. The book is well researched, thoughtful, and timely. If we could actually get the rest of American society to buy in to it, it wouldn't be a bad utopia.
